The Guide
Here you'll find all important explanations, instructions and remarks which will help you understand Skooly's functioning. The guide is divided into two sections, one for every ordinary user and the second one for tutors exclusively.
As a general note at the beginning, Skooly is continually evolving and improving for your convenience. While some UI/UX work is still in progress, we're dedicated to making your experience smoother and more user-friendly.
Table of contents
For all users
This section contains helpful information for all Skooly users. The most important part is the Subjects System, which is a must-read.
Since the 2025/2026 school year, we also advise to read the Registration part, as it got more complicated due to some restrictions imposed by the school.
Registration
Unfortunately we are no longer allowed to store European Schools' emails (those ending with eursc.eu), therefore the registration process became more complicated.
For basic account cration, the process stays almost the same:
- Head to the Sign up page to create your account.
- You have to use your private email address (withou a @student.eursc.eu suffix)
- The languages you choose are the ones you want to RECEIVE or GIVE lessons in. It is essential to keep it in mind as it affects the platform's functionality.
After you create your account, make sure to confirm it (by clicking on a link in an email) and then to authenticate your account. More on that here
Subjects system
Subjects are based on what you usually see on your timetable. Every grade from S1 to S7 has different subjects with different language options. That's why we had to come up with a universal solution that suits everyone wanting to improve in any subject of theirs:
Every subject consists of four parts:
- Grade - the grade at which the subject should be taught (S1-7). As some subjects differ across grades, it must be explicitly stated.
- Subject - this is taught in the grade specified by Grade. They differ across different grades. (e.g. L1, MA6, MA5, GEO, ECO, GE2, SCI)
- Option - some of the subjects have different linguistic options. Usually, they're taught in the language of a person's L2 course. They're expressed on your timetables (e.g. EN, FR, DE) and there to specify the language of the course.
- Language - although it looks very similar to the Option, its role is to specify the language, in which a tutor should be fluent enough to translate from the language defined by Option. (e.g. A student attending a GEO course, having EN as their L2, would like to have a tutor that can translate some unknow words into a more familiar language, for instance, French, which should be specified by Language). Of course if you want to keep the lesson in the Option language, you're free to do so.
Finding tutors
You can find all of the available tutors by using this link Tutors or in the navigation bar on top of the screen (only when you're logged in). Once you go to this page, there are two features making finding specific tutors easier:
Filters
There are many filters to choose from, such as first name, last name, grade of the tutor, their rating, the subject you're looking for and the language/s you'd like your tutor to speak in.
Favorites:
The 'Favorites' feature was designed for you to save the tutors you like and might want to book lessons with in the future. If you add any tutor to your favorites, you can always find them in the Your Favorites tab on the tutors page.
Lessons
Lessons should be conducted via Microsoft Teams platform, through private chat. There you can also put all relevant materials for your lessons. Sharing tutor's materials without their specific consent is strictly forbidden.
Bookings
To book a lesson with a tutor, head to their user page and see if they are available (indicated by a green status). You can click on a suitable time slot, and a pop-up will appear. You can pick the subject you want and also set a specific time frame for when you want the lesson to take place. Keep in mind every lesson has to be between 30 to 90 minutes. You can also indicate whether you like the lesson to occur once or every week.
View
You can always check all the information regarding your lessons on your user page. Just click on one, and a pop-up with all vital information should appear. This 'View' feature lets you see the details of your upcoming and past lessons, including the subject, tutor, date, and time. You can also delete your lesson; just remember you should not do that on the same day as it takes place. If it is due to some unforeseen circumstances, please contact directly your tutor or student.
Presence
When the lesson ends, you have to mark the presence of a tutor or student. It is done in the lesson view.
Reviews
To give a tutor anonymous feedback on his teaching and lessons, you can write them a review. It is also going to help out other students looking for great tutors. We only accept constructive criticism. In the event of the spreading of hatred and the use of vulgar language, the appropriate consequences will be imposed.
Notifications
Behind the icon of an envelope, here to help you keep track of changes in your lessons and on the site in general, you can find your notifications. For now they are not webpush notifications, meaning you won't get directly notified on your device. For now, please check the site regularly. Webpush notifications will be implemented soon.
Feedback
We strongly rely on your feedback for improvements and updates. If you encounter a typo, strange behavior of the website or some good idea comes up to your mind, do not hesitate to let us know in the feedback pop-up on home page! (Headphones icon)
For tutors
How to become a tutor
To become a tutor, there are multiple criteria you need to fulfil:
- You must be at least in S4.
- You should have a 75% average in the subject you want to teach.
Additionally, you don't need to have any experience in teaching
If these criteria are respected, you must send a motivation letter of around 250 words.
The letter must contain your name, class, and why you want to become a tutor if you have already given some lessons or experience in this domain. Finally, it should also contain which subject you want to teach and your grade in these subjects.
The letter must be sent to this email address: [email protected]
You will receive an email with a response to your motivation letter. In this email, you will also receive a proposal for a time slot for a quick 5/10 minute interview with a member of the board. This interview is divided into three parts:
- Quick questions about your motivation letter. You will be asked some questions where the board members want more specifications about some blanks.
- Other questions to learn more about you and how you manage your time.
- The interview will conclude with a real-life situation, and you will be asked to explain how you would handle it.
You will receive an email with a positive or negative response a few days later. In the email you will find a link where you can specify your subjects.
If you are not accepted, the reasons will be given in the email, and you can work on them again.
Setting availabilites
Setting availabilities is what makes having lessons possible. These are the time frames which students can fill with their tutoring sessions. You can set an availability by simply clicking on a grey section of your schedule. The pop-up will ask you for the time frame. The system is flexible, you can set it for any time you like, but we suggest using rounded times, like 8:10, 8:15 or 8:30, for better consistency.
